Had no idea I could be so fucking tenacious. FINALLY, after endlessly pitching, I landed a story in the national paper, The Globe & Mail It’s less a challenge to HBO’s Girls (a show I don’t watch), instead taking a more forward-looking stance and surveying what alternatives already exist (or will, soon enough): The Mindy Project (conceived by and starring Mindy Kaling), Awkward Black Girl (a hilarious, FREE, internet show), and this local play Pomme Is French For Apple. You can read it here. I’d like to add that this was NASA Curiosity Control Room Freakout-level important for me. Last year was big in terms of accomplishments, but by December my personal life had me feeling very defeated. The first six months of this year were intense: a painful, narcissistic, lonely period of struggling free from this totalitarian density of mood (I suffer from cyclical depression, which most often manifests in the winter). Eventually, with help from Japan and friends and the humid Toronto summer, I began to feel normal again. And so I returned to my goals with singular focus.  I am happy again, but changed. I feel it all.
