The Gorgeous Killer in Crimes of Passion

Brooklyn-based MC Fresh Daily spent seven gruelling years creating a fan base under the name ill Tarzan, until he was forced to drop the moniker due to legal issues with the family of Tarzan author Edgar Rice Burroughs. Out of that drama, and with cues from his extensive collection of kicks, Fresh Daily was born, and along with the name change came a debut record, The Gorgeous Killer in Crimes of Passion. The 13-track record features production by some of the most in-demand (and O.G.) names in the game, such as Skibeatz (“Untouched Nunchucks”), Exile (“Tits”), Oh No (“Break a Leg”) and Illmind (“Wildlife,” “Crimes of Passion”). A well-curated selection of rap samples and boom-bap drums lends an old school feel to the record. But Fresh doesn’t only rely on throwback-style beats; his lyrical exuberance and dexterity reflect that the new generation of MCs can be just as fresh as their predecessors. (High Water)
