So everyone leaped on WondaGurl, the young Bramptonian high schooler who landed a beat on Jay Z's MCHG . Myself included. But I had met this girl, back in the fall at a listening party for Rich Kidd and Sonreal. So that was cool to see just what she'd accomplished in less than a year.
Anyway, because I'd been waiting for an opportunity to write about a super fledging producer and because I had some other things I wanted to write about and because everyone and their mama was writing about WondaGurl, I decided (along with my wonderful editor at The Grid, Sarah Liss) to take a different direction and talk about production and gender in this city. The opportunities for it, the relatively welcoming environment, and some of the challenges. It turned out great.
